In order to play Fire Emblem Fates: Revelation, you must own either the Fire Emblem Fates: Birthright or the Fire Emblem Fates: Conquest game.

Page Tools.Fire Emblem Fates is unlike previous entries in the Fire Emblem Franchise in that the game comes in different forms. Whether purchased physically or digitally, users will have to pick a side - either with their adopted family, the royal family of Nohr (Conquest), or with their birth family, the royal family of Hoshido (Birthright). Whichever base game is chosen, the other path can be purchased as DLC for half the price.

An additional path (Revelation), choosing to ally with neither faction, will become available as DLC, also half the price of the full game (though you technically do not need to beat the game on either path to play it).The choice carries more weight than simple ties to family however, as the three paths include their own difficulty, exclusive allies, and mechanics. Generally speaking, many of Birthright's chapters have more simple objectives, like routing the enemy or defeating the enemy leader. In between chapters, you will be able to scout for challenges and combat enemy units for gold and experience - similar to fighting the Risen in Fire Emblem Awakening. You can also combat other armies via StreetPass and earn money and exp in a similar fashion. This allows the player to 'grind' as long as they wish before taking on the next chapter.Choosing the Conquest path will have the player align themselves with Nohr and Corrin's adopted family (in a land more akin to early European empires like that of Rome).

Refunction. Unlike Birthright, Conquest's chapters often include more diverse objectives, including breaking through well defended enemy lines, or holding an objective against overwhelming odds. These objectives will also reward you with less money and experience than their Birthright counterparts.

Grinding for experience and relationships is severely limited in this version. Conquest does not allow for challenge scouting on the map, and even battling armies via StreetPass will not grant money or experience. There is still a way for Nohr players to battle a single AI team that gives experience, however it can only be used once.

The only other way to gain more money and EXP is through use of DLC maps. The free Before Awakening map, however, can only be used to 'grind' relationship status improvements, which then unlocks paralogues.Choosing the Revelation path has the player forsaking both sides in order to find and establish a new kingdom to bring the other two in line. Doing so will let you recruit allies from both kingdoms, however the overall difficulty is harder than Birthright, but easier than Conquest.

This is due to the fact that while certain chapters might have harder conditions to meet, the general objectives remain simple, like the routing of enemy forces. Revelation players will also be able to benefit from unlimited skirmishes between chapters to grind for extra money and experience.Units and Classes.
